Elton is a Diva, But Still Rocks the House with Billy Joel

A fun start to the Elton John and Billy Joel concert tonight — the first ever concert at Nationals Park started about as well as most of the Nationals seasons have gone.

Billy Joel gets down and dirty until Elton John … er, under Elton John’s piano … in an attempt to fix that gosh darn sticky pedal. Browse More Photos Here.
Just a few minutes into what was supposed to be a few songs together, Elton stormed off because one of his pedals was sticking, basically suggesting the show come to a full stop until his issue was fixed. Luckily, Billy was the trooper we’d expect and just kept going … playing the Battle Hymn of the Republic briefly before Elton returned.
But still, his pedal was sticking. Billy ran over and — wearing a suit — got under Elton’s piano and tried to fix it. Alas, to no avail, Sir Elton stormed off the stage again in quite the Diva fashion.
Billy called out his entire band and started his solo set a bit early.
Sir Elton finally returned about an hour or more into the set, did his solo act and then Billy rejoined an hour later for the duet performance. It wasn’t quite what the docket listed, but still rocked on all sides.
This was the second time I’ve seen the dynamic piano duo in action — last time I had to drive down to Greensboro, NC to check them out. The only disappointing thing with these types of concerts is the sheer number of songs in their hit catalogs they can’t get to — but probably the same problem even when they do play solo.
Still, for about three and a half hours, it was a tremendous show despite the drama, which actually added some funny moments especially when Billy proclaimed that we’d all just witnessed a real life rock and roll $($&#-up. (Only he didn’t bleep himself…). Totally awesome.

P.S. I was a little disappointed there was no “Good Night Saigon …”, I really think Billy and Elton ALMOST could have outdone Will and the cast of SNL …. clip included below

Billy Joel was a true class act. He and his band were awesome and saved the day. Elton’s diva attitude was understandable but totally unacceptable.
Elton -REALITY CHECK….your audience shelled out big bucks, fount crowds on the metro, arrived hours early, stood in the rain waiting for the gates to open, had our bags searched and sat in seats made for midgets TO HEAR YOU AND BILLY.
At least BILLY REALIZED THE AUDIENCE DESERVED BETTER THEN A STAGE WALK OFF! BILLY, YOU ROCK!

I worked the Elton concert he did a few years ago and the same thing. While back stage he was the biggest DIVA I have ever seen. But when he walked past the curtain he turned it on and rocked the . While I think he can be an idiot he is a great performer. Ok , I love the Billy Joel concerts and like you said he rocks the house. Always the stand up guy. By the way next time check the show they do in Vegas. Better seats and great food after the show!
