Just announced live, O.J. Simpson and his co-conspirator were found guilty on all charges in connection to the sports memorabilia ‘take back’ incident in Las Vegas. His smiles of joy after being found not guilty 13 years earlier (literally) quickly turned to tears.
There are an intriguing number of ironies here surrounding the number 13.
- Tonight’s verdict was on October 3rd (Pacific Time). Exactly 13 years to the day of the Not Guilty verdict in Los Angeles in the deaths of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.
- October 3rd is 10/3. 10+3=13
- CNN reports that the jury deliberated for 13 hours
- In the 1995 case, the verdict was read at about 10 a.m. after three hours of deliberating. 13.
- At the time of the Brown/Goldman murder, Simpson’s children were aged eight and five. 13.
- Simpson was arrested in connection with the robbery that occurred on September 13, 2007. The 13th.
The only thing not 13 was the number of charges. That came up one short, at 12. Of course one plus 12 equals 13.
One thing may be for sure, O.J. at 61-years-old is seemingly headed for far longer than 13 years in prison. His sentencing is December 5th. OK, so no 13 reference there.
Either way, 13 is definitely unlucky for O.J. He may have remained “free” for 13 years, but call it karma, fate or justice if you believe he was guilty the first go round. But O.J. is getting cuffed and going away for a long, long time.
Perhaps the appeals will take 13 years.
